Jak II: Playthrough Part 23: The Deadly Trials of Mar's Tomb

So... Mar's Tomb was hidden right under Haven City this whole time? Time to check it out!

When Jak & Daxter arrive at the tomb's sealed entrance, Samos and Kor were also there, and they brought the kid with them.

Kor was excited for an oppotunity to reach the Precursor Stone, and Samos was ready to put the kid, Mar's heir, through the tomb's challenges.

Jak, however, thinks it's messed up it is to send a poor little child through such a dangerous course. Daxter tried to cheer him up, but his words only made the kid even more nervous.

From the tomb, itself, a voice spoke out to the one that was meant to go through the tomb. It opened its way into the tomb...

But once it saw the kid, even that voice knwws that he was too young not ready for the trials, and proceeds to reseal the entrance.

Jak & Daxter rushed on through in the kid's stead, for the sake of getting the Precursor Stone, all with the full knowledge that they may not make it back out alive, as Kor believes.

But then even more trouble abounds as Krimzon Guards discovered the group left behind...
----------

This tomb is split up into two big courses. There are no Metal Heads in here, but there's a lot of spiders throughout the whole tomb, and weird gators in the initial water area.

I first take on the left-hand tests of manhood, which mostly consists of an athletic obstacle course that involves reaching switches to alter the retracting spike pillars you have to jump on until you can make them release underground stairs.
----------

In that area, the Dark Eco Duo find a big pin. Daxter pulls it off, and is then forced to get chased by a boulder, Crash Bandicoot style!

So you get this short time to play as Daxter! He can double jump, spin, and use a tail whip attack. Use all of this to outrun the boulder and beat any smaller spiders in your way.

But then after you outrun the boulder, Daxter is faced with an even bigger threat, a giant spider! So then you have to go through a longer course to get away from it, where it gets sealed right behind a door.

Looks like Orange Lightning lives to see another sunrise!
----------

So then you have to get through the rest of the tomb with Jak by himself. You finish the rest of the left-hand tests of manhood and shoot a beam towards the gigantic door in the main room.

So now it's time to go through the right-hand tests of manhood. Compared to the left-hand tests being more about brawn, the right-hand tests are more about brain.

In one of the tests, here, you have to hit 3 beetles with red markings, but you only see these markings for a moment, and you're not allowed to use your Morph Gun to avoid taking damage if you hit the wrong one. If you have Dark Jak at the ready, though, you can just Dark Bomb through a whole group a beetles to clear out the right ones.

Another kind of test has you go through multicolored platforms, where you can only jump on the ones that are flashing to make your way through. Touch the wrong one, and you may fall to your death.

The last kind of test here has you in a room with tombstones. You have to hit pairs of tombstones that make the same sound in a row. For each pair that you get right, they'll sink into the ground. This will be confusing, at first, but keep at it, and it will get easier. The catch is that this setup of sounds CAN change, so you can't entirely trust my playthrough of this spot to be the same as yours.

After this, you'll be able to reach the second light that finally unlocks the gigantic door in the main room of the tomb.

The Precursor Stone is waiting for Jak, and so, too, is his little furry orange friend...
