On a long, gloomy, stormy night
Our ship lost direction
Through the waves, then, a distant light
Flashed with hope of salvation
The Captain soon turned the rudder
And the sky broke with thunder
Then from the darkness rose a temple on a headland
Neon shining signs and Buddha’s smiles carved in faux stone
While a voice was singing “Stairway to heaven”!

Sirens poured honey in our ears
Eternal sailors’ temptation
Tattooed skins, long, dark, silky hair
They woke up my obsessions
A thick smoke clouded my eyes
I felt caught in a web of lies
Then from a mirror I saw her, beating a three/four time
Just like a goddess in a whirlwind of rock & roll rhymes
And her band played “Stairway to heaven”.

Grape, her name, forbidden fruit of the night
Her lyrics spoke of redemption
To the strangers fallen down from a height
Beauties burnt with deception.
“Lady – I told her – my place is here!”
So she dried the salt from my tears
We flew together on the pure shores of a new brave world
In secret gardens where a corsair can find his lost soul!
And bands use to play “Stairway to Heaven”!

The hall was silent when I woke up alone.
Desert streets under pouring rain.
The Captain told me: “Lad, your time here has gone,
Our ship is ready for new ends.
Your white whale was seen offshore.
The ocean changed its color."
Rocked by the shallop I wondered: “Was that a kind of weird dream?”
The seagulls cried, my thoughts were combed by the first Fall wind
Bringing fading notes of “Stairway to heaven”!
