Top 5 - Games stuck in development hell

There are plenty games that were in development hell for many years before they eventually hit the market. Think about Duke Nukem Forever, Too Human and Prey. But those games are all out now. Let's have a look at the Top 5 Games still stuck in development hell.

5. Doom 4 (2008)

It's assumed that Doom 4 has been in development since early 2008. The game suffered under mismanagement and the production got completely restarted in 2011. Last year two trailers were revealed and a beta test was promised to those who bought Wolfenstein: The New Order. But ever since the release of Wolfenstein, we haven't heard a thing about the new Doom game.

4. Agent (2007)

The stealth action game Agent was announced by Rockstar Games in the summer of 2007. All we know is that the game focuses on secret agents during the Cold War. Take-Two has stated Agent is still in development and renewed the trademarks for the brand two years ago. Perhaps Agent will be a game for the new generation of consoles, but if that's the case it has been through one hell of a development cycle.

3. Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (2006)

Half-Life 2: Episode 3 on the third place on our list? Half-Life 3 confirmed! No, not really. Half-Life 2: Episode 3 was supposed to be the third and final chapter in the Half-Life 2 episodic series. The first chapter was released in June 2006, followed by the second one in October 2007. And Valve still owes us a conclusion to the story. The development of Episode Three has become such a drag that Valve employees are refusing to comment on the release.

2. Beyond Good and Evil 2 (2008)

The sequel to Beyond Good and Evil was announced with a marvellous trailer during the Ubidays in May 2008. The Beyond Good and Evil franchise was originally announced as a trilogy, but up until this point only one game hit the market. Every year since its announcement, Ubisoft confirmed the game is still in development. Ubisoft called Beyond Good and Evil 2 “surprising, innovative and exceptional”, well, at least it's “exceptionally” late.

1. The Last Guardian (2007)

Everybody knew The Last Guardian would be somewhere on our list. And we put it on the number one spot cause we really want to play it. The game has been in development since 2007 and was formally announced at the E3 2009 with a gorgeous trailer, followed by another trailer later that year. From that moment on the development became a disaster and the gorgeous adventure game was delayed multiple times. Apparently Sony now wants to re-introduce the title and has a smaller development team working on it. In February the company confirmed that The Last Guardian is still in development. Guess we just have to be patient.
