Burma: What Led To the 2021 Coup?
In February 2021, after losing an election to Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party, the military of Burma, also known as Myanmar, launched a violent coup to overthrow the elected government. Ambassador Kelley Currie, Former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, discusses the situation on the ground leading up to the coup.
