Atomic processes create sounds within stars which minutely modulate the star's light. This 'star song' radiates across the Cosmos and asteroseismologists on earth are able to retrieve the song by a process of demodulation, helping them to learn more about the star.

The CymaScope is able to make visible the sonic signature of stars from sound files prepared by astrophysicists, and the resulting dynamic geometries may provide a useful analog for students.
