Hemp – marijuana’s non-psychoactive counterpart - is positioned to trigger an environmental revolution. Yet, the crop remains critically underutilized and underappreciated for the benefits it can bring to our society. This talk by Riki Theodorakakos focuses on the myriad of commercial and ecological merits of integrating hemp and hemp products into businesses across the globe. Riki Theodorakakos is a 17-year old student with a passion for environmental activism. Growing up in a world characterised by rising greenhouse gas emissions, immense rainforest deforestation and pressing resource shortages, Riki developed a profound urge to learn how to tackle crucial environmental challenges being faced by her generation.
After completing a research project in 2018 on the regulations, commercial uses and environmental merits of industrial hemp in Australia, Riki further fostered a love and passion for the environment, and in particular, recognised the power of hemp’s unique opportunity for environmental revolution. Riki seeks to study both law and environmental policy and management in order to fulfill her innate purpose: to live a life in the unwavering pursuit for environmental conservation and climate action.
