One reason Dan Lanning has Oregon Football fans excited about his hire is that his defense at Georgia last year with Kirby Smart was one of the best the sport has seen in recent memory. With the flurry of offensive coaches hired in recent years, the Ducks may very well be one of the few programs in the country that has a defense-first approach to winning games. The recent history of Lanning and DC Tosh Lupoi indicates that Oregon should be able to upgrade statistically on that side of the ball from a season ago.
