Explosive Ragdoll Physics in Unreal Engine 5

Learn how to make your weapons feel way more impactful in Unreal Engine 5 using directional impulses, radial forces, and dynamic ragdoll physics.

In this tutorial, we’ll build a simple system for applying physics impulses to enemies based on where they’re hit. We’ll set up line trace weapon impacts for a pistol, create a ragdoll function, add bone-based directional knockback, and then build a ray gun-style projectile that uses sphere overlap and radial impulse to launch enemies with an explosive blast.

We’ll also add Niagara impact effects, muzzle flashes, explosion VFX, and sound effects to help sell the impact.
