Conservation of Henry Moore's bronze sculpture 'Knife Edge Two Piece' - All 3 videos | UK Parliament
The House of Commons project to conserve Henry Moore's bronze sculpture 'Knife Edge Two Piece' was successfully completed in March 2013 . The conservation, undertaken by Rupert Harris Conservation, was completed with financial support from the Henry Moore Foundation.
The sculpture was gifted to the nation in 1967 by Moore and the Contemporary Art Society, but no provisions were ever made for its long term care, and there is no record of any maintenance having ever been carried out. In 2011, following an intervention from Frank Doran MP, Chairman of the Speaker's Advisory Committee on works of Art, it was agreed that the sculpture would join the Parliamentary Art Collection which would enable the work to be properly cared for as it required repairs to remove decades of damage that had accumulated since installation.
The result of the 2013 conservation project is that the sculpture now looks as Henry Moore would have intended, and it is protected from future environmental damage. It will also be regularly cared for by a specialist team of Parliamentary curators to ensure that it remains in good condition for future generations' enjoyment.
