DIY Tormek / Wen sharpening jigs Part 1 – chisel / gouge jig for slow speed wet grinders

This video shows how to make a homemade jig for a whetstone sharpening system, to enable you to consistently sharpen wood turning gouges.

From Norm's Dad:
---------------
"I finally bought a Tormek T8 knock-off water cooled sharpening system.

Mine is a WEN BG-4270 (now replaced by the WEN BG-9910) but there are versions made by Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Triton, Rikon, Jet, Scheppach and others.

Mine came with only one jig for straight chisels and plane irons. Since I do woodturning, I wanted a jig for turning gouges, one that could be used to sharpen gouges to what's called Ellsworth grind, fingernail grind, Irish grind or English grind, all of which are similar grinds where the tip of the tool has swept back wings.

This type of jig is expensive and hard to get here in Mexico where I live, so I looked on YouTube for instructions on how to make one that fits the jig bar on my sharpener, and I found that there were no plans. Not anymore! You can download free pdf plans below and follow the instructions in this video and make your own jig.

This jig will work on any jig that has an adjustable jig bar for the jig to slide along. It can also be used to sharpen v-chisels."
