Taking the knee: An act of solidarity or a ritual?
talkRADIO's Ian Collins is joined by sociologist Professor Ellis Cashmore and Stand Up to Racism's Weyman Bennett to discuss whether taking the knee is an effective gesture in tackling racism.
It comes after football fans booed players who took part in the act at a Millwall match against Derby at the weekend.
Professor Cashmore argues: "The impact has been made...how long does it go on for before it loses its meaning and becomes, what I believe it's danger of becoming, and that is a ritual - and only a ritual.
Mr Bennett counters: "“I think it’s appropriate that people show acts of solidarity with people if they want progress in a society and I don’t think there’s been enough progress in our society.”
