I booked an impromptu day trip to Las Vegas knowing that the winds would be coming out of the north at a good clip, so there was a decent chance that operations would be from the 1s. Though not a relative rarity, I knew that this would give me some newer vantage points as the runways run parallel to The Strip. The approach took us over the desert southwest of the city and the county’s tallest point, Charleston Peak. Afterward we can see the hazy Las Vegas Valley in the distance before taking our final turn. Something I’m planning on doing in the future if operations are on the 1s again is hitting that shopping mall we passed over just before landing for some great close-up spotting. The head flight attendant making the announcements was perfect for a morning Vegas arrival. Great job, Delta.
