Welcome to Displore and Thanks for watching, in this video, we shall be taking a look at the Top 10 Univerisities in Africa. Africa is not the first place that comes to your mind when it comes to pursuing higher education. Much of this is due to the widespread ignorance about the African continent, which makes it harder for people to recognize the potential there is.
This may come as a surprise to many, but Africa does offer many really good Higher Education opportunities. The standards maintained by certain African universities are top-notch and will not disappoint anyone who wants quality. University Ranking is provided by Times Higher Education – an international higher education search engine and directory reviewing accredited Universities and Colleges in the world. The ranking rates university performance using 13 different indicators including, Research, research impact, innovation and international outlook just to mention a few. It might shock you to know that The top 10 best universities in Africa are found in just 4 countries and south Africa is the only Country in Africa that has a university in the Top 500 Best Universities in the world.

. The universities on this list have performed exemplarily on various parameters such as teacher-student ratio, access to resources, placement opportunities, and others. So, let us see what they are.

10. University of Ibadan – Nigeria
The University of Ibadan was established in 1948 as the University College Ibadan, it is the oldest degree awarding institution in Nigeria, and is located five miles (8 kilometres) from the centre of the major city of Ibadan in Western Nigeria. It is popularly known as Unibadan. It started with just three department in medicine, sciences and Arts but thiday its bost of 13 faculties including Agriculture and Forestry, Renewable Natural Resources, Social Sciences, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Technology, Law, Public Health, and Dentistry. A thirteenth, Economics, Environmental Design and Management, is proposed.
The university has residential and sports facilities for staff and students on campus, as well as separate botanical and zoological gardens which houses endangered animals and plants. In September 2016, it became the first Nigerian university to make the top 1000 universities in the world in Times Higher Education rankings. Prior to that, it had always made the top African 10 best universities in Africa. Some of the Univeriy’s Alumni are Professor Wole Soyinka ad Chinua Achebe .

9. Covenant University
Covenant University (CU) is located in Ota, Ogun State in Nigeria. It is a private Christian university, affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities and National Universities Commission and has been operating since 2002 .Over the years, Covenant University has grown to be one of the leading universities from Nigeria based on annual rankings from various organizations, scholarly citations from reputable journals and JAMB statistic. Covenant University academic programmes runs in four Colleges namely College of Business and Social Sciences, College of Leadership Development Studies, College of Engineering and College of Science and Technology. School of Postgraduate Studies Covenant University runs postgraduate programmes in the entire curriculum listed above. Covenant University's Centre for Learning Resources, otherwise known as the University's Library, is situated between the female Hall of Residence Dorcas Hall and Esther Hall areas of the campus, and directly opposite the University's chapel. The total floor area of the complex is 11,300m/2. It is designed as a glass structure. It is located amidst the college buildings, the University Chapel and the Halls of Residence. It is able to accommodate up to 3000 readers and about 500 research staff and postgraduate.
