The mid 1930's Mercedes 500K and 540K Special Roadsters are among the world's most desirable autos.

The Special Roadsters was one of the Mercedes great designs. They were using the 500 chassis which was a super charged engine. Wonderful performance. It was, if you like one of the ultimate European manufacturers of the time.

Of course, these were also the cars that Nazi officials flocked to so there's a reason why someone wouldn't want one.

These sleek and sexy cars were built for touring, not racing. But the owners probably liked speed. In some cases, in more ways than one.
