Drone captures incredible swirling rip at Manly Beach

An incredible video has emerged of a swirling rip churning off Manly Beach.

A surf photographer captured the mesmerising footage of a huge ocean vortex off Manly on Monday as heavy surf pounded the shoreline and waves of up to two and a half metres rolled in.

Sometimes called a ‘tornado rip’ by surfers, experts say it's created when strong currents rush seaward through a narrow channel, spinning as they collide with incoming swell.
