Teaching recall

The recall is the most important behaviour to get right, as it provides so much freedom in the park while under safe control.

Start with making this a fun game with your dog, with lots of praise and rewards. Then add those important three 3 D’s, starting with building distance gradually, then distractions. The duration on recall is to minimise the delay between the recall cue and the behaviour to achieve 0 latency.

Combine this with my ‘auto-check-ins’ video in the highlights, to prevent your dog just rushing up to every dog.

Once fully learned, you can switch to variable rewards, to phase out the dependency on food and make the behaviour even stronger.
