New NEPRA Net Metering Rules | Lahore | Essa Jadoon | Pakistan Connect

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has introduced revised regulations regarding solar energy systems in Pakistan, aiming to streamline the licensing and net metering process.

According to the updated policy, solar installations connected to the national grid will now require proper licensing to operate. However, rooftop solar systems that are not connected to the grid and are solely used for self-consumption will not require any license.

The policy further clarifies that systems generating more than 25 kilowatts will be subject to a fee of Rs. 1,000 per kilowatt, applicable only to grid-connected consumers. Systems below this threshold will remain exempt from this charge.

NEPRA officials state that these revisions are expected to improve regulatory clarity, facilitate pending applications, and potentially add up to 250 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, easing pressure on the energy sector.
