YORK ENGLAND | A wander from The Shambles to York Minster in York City Centre

When you walk through the back streets of York it really does feel as though you are going back hundreds of years. The place is rich in history and historic buildings, and none quite as magnificent as York Minster which is our destination in this walking tour of York England.

Be begin this walk in the narrow streets of The Shambles. This street used to be stuffed full off butchers shops but these days it has changed to shops and businesses catering towards the tourist market. It gets very busy here with visitors looking in the shop windows of places that sell coffee, gifts, fudge and even a Harry Potter shop that takes advantage of the fact that Shambles looks very much like Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter movies.

This wasn't actually a Harry Potter film location though - it just has a look and feel of the films.

From Shambles we head through York City Centre and towards York Minster by first heading down Newgate into Shambles Market. We then take a right turn down the Patrick Pool a little lane here in the heart of York England.

This brings out out at Swinegate and Church Street where we take another right turn and head down this busy shopping street. Down Church Street we arrive at the junction with Kings Square where we turn left onto Low Petergate.

Immediately we can see the magnificent York Minster looming over the shops and the tourists here walking the streets of York.

If you are looking for things to do in York England then head for this street where you can enjoy some traditional yorkshire pudding, have a nice coffee and then spend some time shopping in the many shops here, before heading for York Minster or The Shambles.

Towards the end of this tour of the City of York England we go from Low Petergate to the junction of High Petergate, Stonegate and Minster Gates, another historic city street here in this beautiful Yorkshire city.

Moving onto Minster Gates we are faced with the sheer beauty of York Minster and head into Minster Yard where our walking tour ends.

Whether you are coming to York to climb York Minster tower or window shop in Shambles you will most definitely have the greatest time here. I could not recommend it enough.
