Jocko Willink explains the beneficial reason why the SEAL Teams began attaching Navy EOD Technicians to their SEAL Platoons and training them in the same capacity as Navy SEALs, throughout their entire pre-deployment workups at the start of the post-9/11 wars, as opposed to simply sending a SEAL to an EOD school.

The reason being because numerous IED threats were inevitable. Therefore, you would need the person dealing with those threats to see it as their primary concern, rather than a "collateral" duty.
