NCDOT pretreats roads ahead of weekend snowstorm

As winter weather approaches the Charlotte area this weekend, road crews are working now to stay ahead of potentially hazardous conditions.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says pretreatment is already underway on major roadways and bridges, with crews focusing on areas that tend to freeze first as temperatures drop.

NCDOT officials say prevention is key, applying materials before ice has a chance to form. Across the region, crews are pretreating interstates, highways and bridges using salt brine, while remaining ready to shift to plowing and additional treatment if conditions worsen.

“It’s all about getting ahead of the weather,” David Uchiyama, western communications manager with NCDOT, said. “Our crews and contractors have been out on the roads working since before last weekend’s storm came in and cleared that up in the Charlotte area.” #Snow #NCDOT #Charlotte
