Local lake, river levels drop below normal as drought conditions continue

Dry conditions across the Charlotte area are beginning to take a visible toll and water levels are now dipping below normal.

According to new data from Duke Energy, Lake Wylie is sitting just below its target level. While officials say the drop is not considered extreme, it is already creating challenges for people out on the water.

Boaters say the difference from last year is hard to miss.

“From last year when we came, it’s kind of crazy how low it is,” Bailey Thomas, who was out on the lake this week, said.
