Former Israeli PM accuses government of war crimes in Gaza

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and its “political war” on Gaza in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

Pointing to ministers’ calls to starve Gaza’s population, Olmert asked: “What is this, if not a war crime?”

Olmert had recently published an opinion piece in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz calling Israel’s war on Gaza “a war of annihilation” and speaking out against the “indiscriminate, limitless, cruel” killing of civilians. He is one of the first major political figures in Israel to do so.
