Nick Kyrgios on the Brink of Retirement Following Australian Open Exit 'I'm No Longer a Threat!

Nick Kyrgios seems to be considering an early tennis retirement at 29 following his first-round loss at the Australian Open. After his straight-set defeat to British No.3 Jacob Fearnley, Kyrgios stated that “realistically” he may have played his final singles match at the Australian Open. The Aussie, making just his second appearance since June 2023, was battling an abdominal strain sustained while preparing for his home Grand Slam.Fearnley, ranked 86th in the world, capitalized on Kyrgios' struggles, securing a 7-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory and silencing the crowd at John Cain Arena.Kyrgios attempted some of his trademark moves—a tweener, behind-the-back shot, and underarm serve—but was unable to replicate the form that took him to the 2022 Wimbledon final. Since then, he has dealt with serious knee and wrist injuries.
