Fritz admitted he felt “horrible” after coming so close to reaching the final, only to be edged out by the 19-year-old Czech in a tightly contested match. Mensik secured his victory with a powerful serving performance, firing 25 aces to claim a 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(4) win. His triumph set up a final showdown against Novak Djokovic. Seeded third in the tournament, Fritz was eager to reach another ATP Masters 1000 final on home soil. However, he struggled to handle Mensik’s relentless serving and couldn’t hide his frustration after the defeat. While Mensik found it difficult to break Fritz’s serve, the American insisted that was little consolation. “That doesn’t make me feel any better,” Fritz told Punto de Break. “I wasn’t able to perform at the level I needed to in both tiebreaks, and that’s why I feel terrible. His serve is insane—it’s always been strong, but now he’s also placing it with unbelievable accuracy.” Fritz also acknowledged how much Mensik has improved in a short period and believes the young Czech has a real shot at beating Djokovic.
