In this video:
* What is a silicone?
* Why are silicones in beauty products?
* Silicone myths?
- Silicones are synthetic and not natural
- Silicones are bad for sensitive skin
- Silicones are toxic for your body
- Silicones suffocate your skin and cause acne
- Silicones just makes your skin look nice but don't actually do anything/makes your skin worse
- Active ingredients can't get through silicones
- Silicones do nothing for your hair except coat it and make it look shiny
- Silicones stay on your hair and weigh it down
- Silicones are non-biodegradable and toxic for the environment
Erratum: I don't think "silicones stop treatments from getting through to your hair so coloring and perming might not turn out as predicted" is quite correct - the chemicals used in those processes are quite harsh and should be able to get through! But I think silicones could potentially make it more difficult for the hairdresser to assess your hair and judge what to use on it.
