How British Spies Hid In Cold War East Germany • BRIXMIS PART 4 | Forces TV

Read about BRIXMIS here👉 https://www.forces.net/news/real-cold-war-spies-brixmis

They were known as BRIXMIS - a British Army unit made up of personnel spying on the Soviet Union in post-war Germany. After the Second World War, Germany was split into four occupation zones. The east came under Russian control, while the west went under American, British and French control. Part of the agreement to divide Germany led to the creation of military liaison missions, that could travel into enemy territory. However, in reality, BRIXMIS (the British Commander-in-Chief’s Mission to the Soviet Forces) became spies.

In this final episode, former BRIXMIS spy Dave Butler talks about being stuck and fearing for his life behind East German enemy lines during the Cold War. He revisits an old guest house in the heart of a typical German village, where in 1987 the owner risked his own life to hide Dave and his mission companion for a long, cold night.
