Aikido technique SHIHONAGE on basic attacks, by Stefan Stenudd, 7 dan Aikikai shihan

Here is the aikido technique shihonage applied against basic grip and strike attacks. I show it both slow and fast - mainly gotai (from a static starting point), but also some jutai (moving as the attack approaches) when going faster.

There are two versions of shihonage - omote (front) and ura (back). I show both versions against each attack form on this video.

Shihonage is one of the basic aikido techniques. Its name - "four directions throw" - indicates its link to the Japanese sword arts, where shihogiri (four directions cut) is a basic exercise. Shihonage is done in a way quite similar to cutting with the two-handed Japanese sword.
