Aikido technique IRIMINAGE against grip and strike attacks, by Stefan Stenudd, 7 dan Aikikai shihan

Here is the aikido throw iriminage, applied against several different grip and strike attacks. I show it both slow and fast - mainly gotai (from a static starting point), but also some jutai (moving as the attack approaches) when going faster. In most cases, there is little difference between gotai and jutai versions of iriminage, except the timing. But in ushiro (attacks from behind), the start of the technique differs significantly. The ushiro solutions on this video that are jutai only, are marked as such.

Iriminage is a very popular throwing technique in aikido. It's one of my favorites, as well. There is beauty in its swirls.

There are many different ways of doing it, also regarding how the attacker falls at the end. I prefer ushiro ukemi, the backwards fall, which is what is shown on this video. That's to avoid the attacker (called uke) turning towards the defender (tori or nage) in the throw.

I've written some comments and explanations about the iriminage technique here:

Uke was Stephan Schröder (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVrnh_etoIbrwwb0sAvv5Cg), and Jim Dagsberg held the camera.
