This video is the first installment in a series that’s designed to explain, why does Denmark exist? To find out why Denmark exists, the @RobeTrotting guys travel to the place where it was born in Jelling, Denmark. It’s the Viking village in mid-Jutland and the first place Denmark was written down.

Kongernes Jelling - Home of the Viking Kings - is a @UNESCO World Heritage site in a small Danish town that is a crossroads between the Viking Age and the Christian Kingdom of Denmark. To understand the Denmark of today, we have to go back to the place where it all started.

We visit with the head of the Jelling Museum and get a tour of the Jelling Stones. He helps us to understand that the site is more than just rune stones - it is important because it shows the change from Pagan, Viking past to a modern Christian future.

Derek explains the transition that took place in Jelling and how it was a turning point in Danish history. This important site is a monument to Danish culture.

Mike explains the significance of the church that’s found in Jelling and the secrets it’s holding.

When it’s time to leave, we are beginning to understand what Jelling means and how it’s a piece in the answer to our questions of why does Denmark exist. It tells us about the past, present, and future of the Danish realm.

We reflect on what it means for us as immigrants who are transitioning to a life in Denmark.

The Jelling stones shed some light on why Denmark exists while also inspiring hope for both us and Denmark in the future.
