Jack Payne 1925 Zonophone Session - First Issued Recordings.
It is 10 years ago today since my first You tube upload. To mark this anniversary here's a special upload featuring Jack Payne's first issued records.
Whilst resident at the Hotel Cecil, his first recording session took place on 13th August 1925. Only one of the two tunes "One stolen kiss" was accepted. On 27th August Jack Payne recorded it again with three other songs. Those tunes are for the first time, in the order they were recorded, put together in one video.
For these early recordings Jack Payne did not receive label credit, simply appearing as "Hotel Cecil Dance Orchestra". They were to be his only recordings of the year. The following year Jack Payne only appeared on three records. These would appear on such relatively modest labels as Duophone and Aco.
It was not until early 1927, with his Regal records that Jack Payne established himself with the record buying public.
I've wanted to issue a video with several recordings at once and thanks to Jonathan Holmes for these transfers and video you can now hear Jack Payne at the very beginning of his recording career.
