Jack Payne 1927 Hotel Cecil Regal Recordings
In January this year I shared Jack Payne's first and uncredited records which were issued on Zonophone in 1925.
It seems apt to follow on from that upload, particularly on the 50th anniversary of Jack Payne's passing, 4th December 1969.
This special upload, my longest to date, features the following 1927 recordings :
Cryin' for the moon. (Vocal chorus Maurice Elwin + 3) Recorded 7th February 1927.
Crazy words, crazy tune (vocal chorus - Jack Payne +1) Rec. 19th March 1927.
I'm looking over a four leaf clover (vocal chorus - Jack Payne) Rec. 30th April 1927
'Deed I do (vocal chorus - Jack Payne & Sydney Nesbitt) Rec. 9th May 1927
Side by side (vocal chorus - Jack Payne) Rec. 21st May 1927
My girl's fine and dandy Rec. 7th July 1927
Cherry Ripe Rec. 8th July 1927.
In choosing the above records I've gone for a distinct '20s feel with some of the popular hits of 1927. The exception being "Cherry Ripe" although the second half adopts a more period approach and is included as it's rather an unusual one on which to conclude.
Most of Jack Payne's Hotel Cecil Regal issues are difficult to find. The majority of these records were found in the 1970s and '80s and due to their scarcity, I've not been able to upgrade these examples. The majority of which were not featured on You tube hitherto. Most of the Regal records of this period are thankfully robust recordings and further enhanced with skillful re-mastering to obtain the best results from the original records.
