Coolest Arcade in the World! - KAWASAKI WAREHOUSE in Japan

Kawasaki Warehouse is a cyberpunk dream of retro video games and shady alleyways. This legendary arcade in Kawasaki, Japan, was inspired by a crowded slum village in Hong Kong called Kowloon Walled City.

Taishiro Hoshino (a kabuki theater art director) and his team of artists replicated the infamous Kowloon neighborhood. The real Kowloon was demolished in 1993. Many of decorations in the arcade are real and brought in from Hong Kong

Unlike the pristine office buildings surrounding it, the Kawasaki Warehouse is covered in dark rust and exposed pipes. This arcade has several unique entrances.

The front entrance begins with an automatic door that puffs out a gust of compressed air with a pneumatic hiss. After that unexpected surprise, visitors are led down a shadowy corridor with overhanging wires. Hidden speakers play the sounds of a chaotic Hong Kong street market.

The rear entrance starts with a giant circular yin-yang symbol that splits to reveal a pond of glowing green liquid. Visitors must cross stepping stones and pass through a Trigram symbol before entering a hexagonal tunnel.

Where the two entrances meet, neon signs bathe the ground floor with a red glow. Escalators bring visitors upstairs to the Kowloon Walled City Arcade. Retro arcade machines sit against grimy-looking walls that are covered in ripped up-posters and signage from decades past.

Towering about the arcade machines are recreations of tiny cramped apartments and storefronts. Laundry hangs over balconies.

Visitors can ascend another floor to get a better look at these atmospheric reproductions, and look over a balcony to the arcade below.

The Kowloon Walled City Arcade is just one park of Kawasaki Warehouse. (Though it's the coolest section!) The rest of the warehouse is filled with other games including ping pong, darts, claw machines, horse racing games, and more.

On November 17, 2019, the doors of Kawasaki warehouse were closed for good, leaving this legendary arcade to become just that...a legend.
