Transcendent Brightliner (4K)
As the city sleeps, Trainluvr urgently composes a video from clips he recorded in 2020, the final year of regular service by the R-32 (aka Brightliner). Now on the eve of its transcendent journey to a final resting place in the annals of transit history, this video recalls the rail fan experience that will be no more - the time honored tradition of observing the road with a motorman’s perspective. Its pioneering (for New York) stainless steel body shell and structure is what made it unique and insured its long survival. In its final years it traversed that most magical of routes, the oldest and longest steel elevated line in the world, with its center express track, unusual skip stop operation and views of the Manhattan skyline. Fortunately the R-32, born during the second New York World’s Fair and introduced with the nickname "Brightliner", is retiring in an era of widely available high definition video recording. Enjoy this brief 4K video. Farewell rides begin today. https://www.nytransitmuseum.org/r32/
