“FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD AT THE 2016 LISTOWEL FOOD FAIR”

The historic town of Listowel long famed for its literary geniuses and culinary delights will once again come alive for the 2016 Listowel Food Fair -Ireland’s longest running food festival which celebrates it’s 22nd consecutive fair this year from November 10th -14th.

Highlights of the 2016 Listowel Food Fair include Ireland’s celebrated “Happy Pear” twin chefs David & Stephen Flynn behind ‘The Happy Pear' cookbook and two cafés of the same name. The “Happy Pear” will impart their knowledge of home grown Irish foods with a cooking demonstration on Thursday 10th November 2016 at the Listowel Arms Hotel.
Another headline event in this year’s festival schedule is World and European Championships and former Irish Olympian sprint hurdle athlete Derval O’Rourke who will share her expertise on nutrition and exercise in The Listowel Community Centre on Friday 11th November 2016.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Pat Breen will officially launch the “Grow Your Food Business Seminar” for food producers in the Seanchaí Literary Centre, Listowel at 11am on Friday 11th November 2016.
This year’s Food Seminar will feature a host of guest speakers including Mary Ann O Brien, founder of Lily O'Brien's Chocolates, Mary Morrissey, Snr. Manager Food & Beverage Division of Bord Bia, Tomás Hayes CEO, Kerry Local Enterprise Office and Mary Stack, Development Officer, NEKD.

A Celebration Awards Dinner featuring a 9 Course Tasting Menu will be held on Saturday 12th November 2016 at the Listowel Arms Hotel. The prestigious annual “Listowel Food Fair Awards” will be presented again this year over the duration of the four day festival. Categories this year include the “Ornua Listowel Food Fair Book of The Year”, the “Best Emerging Artisan Products and Cheese Competition”, the “Listowel Food Fair Food Hero Awards”, the Lifetime Achievement Awards, the “Bord Bia Schools Competition Awards” and the “Best Chowder Competition”.

The very popular Listowel Food Fair “Food Hall” is presented this year in association with Taste Kerry at the Listowel Arms and features Artisan Food stalls and product presentations from the top artisan food producers in Kerry.
The “Food Hall” this year will also feature Chef Noel Keane on "Edible Landscape" and will take place in the Listowel Arms Hotel on Sunday 13th November 2016 from 11am -5pm.
With something for all ages and tastes, weekend events this year include, a children’s Baking Workshop with Cookarama, a 'Taste the World' Food Trail around Listowel, a Cookery Demonstration with Sheila Kelly of Bord Bia for local secondary schools, Craft Fair and Autumnal Jazz Lunch.

Local restaurants’ chefs will join the Farmers Market to cook in the open air, also there will be a fish cookery demonstration by Bord Bia at Garvey’s Supervalu and a 'superfoods' recipes competition at Horan’s Health Shop in the afternoon.

On Monday 14th November 2016 a Farmer’s Seminar on the effects of climate change and Brexit in the Beef Industry.
