The NHS has been 'deified as a quasi-religious entity' | 11-Feb-21

A former Conservative MP has claimed the NHS is being perceived as semi-religious by Labour's deputy leader.

Speaking to talkRADIO's Mike Graham, Stewart Jackson said: “It has been deified as a quasi-religious entity by people like Angela Rayner. Which government can’t look at expenditure and say, we can do this better?”

It comes as Ms Rayner urged Health Secretary Matt Hancock to distance himself from a think tank report that suggested the NHS's performance during the pandemic was "nothing special".
