Completed Journal Flip Through (Short Version with Music) | Witchy Mixed Media Collage Art Journal
Long Chat Version: https://youtu.be/o_Zmgu8mmDA
Welcome to Witchy Journal October! For all of October, I'll be uploading a video from my Witchy Journal EACH Saturday leading up to the final finished art journal flip through on Halloween.
Happy Halloween! This is the shorter version of my completed flip through set to music instead of a rambly chat. This has been such a fun journey and I hope y'all have enjoyed coming along on the ride as much as I enjoyed bringing Witchy Art Journal October.
This is truly a journal that I could have worked in for years to come, but I felt like it was time to finally finish it and share. I'm over the moon with how it turned out and definitely got to experience some real magic along the way. This was my first ever themed journal and it was a great experience. After working on it for years, the journal and the magazine character within feel like old friends...or perhaps the other member of my coven. :) Thanks again and happy art journaling!
Also, if you are more familar with some of my other magazine collage art journal videos, my process for this style of journal is quite a bit different.
Instead of doing the art journal page start to finish before turning the page to the next, I kind of treat the entire journal as one page. So, I do several flip throughs and add images, bits, and scraps as I go in layers. I keep flipping until I feel good about moving on to the next layer. It takes quite a bit longer as I've been working on this journal for literal years, but I enjoy the process SO MUCH. It is very calming and rewarding seeing where the journal takes me.

I used a bunch of different materials for this art journal. The cover is made out of an old card board cereal box and random corrugated ripped up bits. The pages are made up of old manila folders and mixed media grade paper. The backgrounds are a mixed of inks, paint, pastels, magazine, old calendars, and scrapbook paper, and construction paper. I also use other materials as we go along like temporary tattooes and pens to add further magical elements.
So, I'm not sure what the powers that be would label this journal. I went with Magazine Collage Art Journal, Magazine Mixed Media Collage Art Journal, or who knows. I also used junk for the cover and some pages like a junk journal and I glued in images like a glue book. I created a story and pages that some would consider an art journal.
But then I never really gave a crap about the labels and "rules" anyway. I just have fun with it and will always encourage others to use what they have, what "speaks" to them, and what gives them the most encouragement and enjoyment absent of any type of rules, gatekeeping, or judgement for their craft or art. It's all good to me and I always enjoy seeing what others come up with and getting inspired.
Don't ever feel like you have to fit into a box with certain rules. Cut that box up and make a journal or journal materials with it and use what ever you want on it and in it.
Seriously, y'all are amazing! I will see y'all next week. I'm excited!
(Also had lots of coffee. So, the exclamation points are needed. lol)
