In a move to secure its interests in the Nile Basin, Egypt has committed to funding and constructing major water infrastructure projects, including dams, within Uganda. During the third "2+2" ministerial consultations held in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced the major commitment. The summit also addressed the crippling economic fallout from the ongoing war in West Asia, which has triggered skyrocketing fuel prices and severe food insecurity across Africa. With Egypt importing nearly half of its diesel, the government has implemented strict energy rationing, including 9:00 PM business curfews in Cairo. To combat these vulnerabilities, Egypt and Uganda are pivoting toward long-term economic self-reliance, seeking to expand trade in agriculture, mining, and pharmaceuticals.
