Castle Forbes Lavender Essential Oil Shaving Cream

The Soap: Castle Forbes Lavender Essential Oil Shaving Cream for sensitive skin. This top performing cream is made on the Forbes estate (dating from 1445) in Scotland, and bears the stag from the Forbes clan emblem on the label. This luxury cream produces a dense, peaky lather with ease. Only a small amount is needed, as this cream is very concentrated. It is also a very thirsty cream – be sure to add enough water to maximize the performance. The scent is a very natural pure lavender scent: soapy, fresh, sweet and peppery. For such a strongly scented cream, with a scent strength 9/10, there is not a hint of irritation, even after three passes.

The Brush: West Coast Shaving Two-Tone Silvertip badger brush. This is a 26mm knot that feels much bigger. Since the loft is set fairly high, there is an enormous bloom to this dense knot. There is a plush, soft feel to it and very good flow-through. The resin handle has a smart retro 1950’s-1960’s barbershop look.

The Razor: Vintage turn-of-the-century J. R. Torrey Co. “Old English”, Worcester, MA. 5/8 wedge.

The Aftershave: Fine Accoutrements Lavender Pour Homme. This alcohol splash pairs nicely with the cream. Based on Oxford & Cambridge by Czech & Speake, with a menthol kick.
