The Soap: Barrister and Mann 42 (Omnibus). 42 is a special edition soap release in their latest omnibus base. The scent is perfect for Spring and Summer, an 8/10 scent strength blend of lemon, florals, black tea and ambergris inspired by the classic sci-fi novel the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The soap base is spectacular and was formulated to perform in every category. The lather has extreme density, forming shiny soft peaks, reminding me of an updated easier-to-work-with reserve base. The lather coats the skin tenaciously, leaving an extremely protective layer. Post shave is second to none, leaving the face remarkably soft and smooth. Omnibus does not disappoint.

The Razor: Vintage (1890’s ?) J. R. Torrey Co. “Old English”, Worcester, MA. 5/8 quarter hollow.

The Brush: Heritage Collection Merit Gelled Boar. This brushmaker is specializing in resurrecting hard to find vintage brush designs and bringing them to the people. Neil’s passion for vintage brushes comes through in his Heritage Collection. He also treats the natural hair knots with a gelling process, ensuring a soft, plush feel. The gelled boar knot used here feels softer than any other boar, with zero scritch, and 100% ready to use out of the box. As an added bonus, the knots have been shampooed and conditioned prior to sending out, removing the initial funk typical with animal hair brushes. Keep an eye out for your favorite vintage designs in badger, synthetic and boar options.

The Aftershave: Barrister and Mann 42. This splash is alcohol based with witch hazel, chamomile and calendula oil. It leaves the skin feeling smooth and refreshed. The scent is the same as found in the soap, a blend of lemon, petunia, tea and ambroxan, with the tea note dominant, perfect for Spring and Summer. This is a very good performing scent, lasting 8 hours on the skin.

The Bowl: Hand Thrown Shaving Scuttle, Two Toned in blue. A scuttle is a bowl within a bowl. Fill the outer chamber with hot water, and it keeps your lather nice and warm throughout the shave. This hand thrown scuttle is heavy piece of pottery with a nice glossy glaze. They are handmade, so they will all be slightly different. I find the scuttle really elevates my shave and makes it a truly luxurious and relaxing experience, in addition to being a handsome piece for display.
