The Dinosaur-Like Kasai Rex

What would you do if a strange reptilian creature appeared from the bushes, causing you to dive into the foliage, trying to overcome the shock, hopefully, if you have a rifle, recalibrate and shoot, or run as fast as you could to find a hole to jump into, to hide from a monster like the Kasai Rex? This is what drew a group of five hunters, including a well-known ivory trafficker, into the Kasai Valley at the start of 1933. Their main goal was to find and capture the creature known as "Kasai Rex," which they mistook for a colossal crocodile. The prospect of selling its valuable skin for a profit provided motivation. The hunters braced themselves for the unknown as they traversed the same swamp. Tensions rose when one of the members noticed a reddish tail vanishing into the depths of a lake and mistook it for an anaconda.

Their fear was compounded when a massive wave crashed into them from the left. They readied their weapons, only to be surprised when the reddish tail surged violently out of the marsh, striking one of the hunters and sending him flying into the water. Four of the remaining hunters opened fire on the reddish mass, which quickly vanished beneath the water's surface. With a broken arm, the fallen hunter summoned the strength to rise and make his way toward his companions. A thunderous roar echoed from beneath the water, forcing the hunters to flee. The imposing presence of a colossal creature that emerged from the right side while remaining submerged on the left obstructed their escape route.

Seeking refuge behind a sturdy rock formation, the hunters eventually decided to flee and returned safely to camp. Kasai Rex has long been associated with theropod classification, especially with the mighty tyrannosaurs. Some people who claimed to have photos of the terrifying creature showed a monitor lizard, a discovery that could potentially validate the creature's existence as an unknown species of giant monitor lizard. Notably, these reptiles have been observed assuming a bipedal stance at times, resembling 1930s reconstructions of Tyrannosaurus and other two-legged reptiles. Because of their exceptional swimming abilities, encountering these creatures in a swamp environment corresponds to their natural habitat. It makes no difference whether Kasai Rex was real or a figment of the imagination. I'm not sure about you, but I know I’m definitely not interested in finding out whether it exists or not.

The Prehistoric Congo Ape

The Congo is mighty and deep like no other place- yet still a retreat and a habitat for several of our world's strangest animals. Our closest relatives live deep inside the dense jungles: three of the four giant ape species have made the Congo basin their home. According to reports from the deep Congolese jungle, larger chimps with gorilla-like characteristics lived deep in the jungles near the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. The chimps from the area were dubbed "Bili apes." According to tribal sources, Bili apes howled at the moon,

nested like gorillas, preyed on predators such as leopards and possibly lions, and could grow to sizes larger than other chimps. Bili apes, with reported heights of up to 6 feet, would be the world's largest chimps. They are a subspecies of chimps that live in the Bili Forest region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are distinguished by their enormous size, which dwarfs that of other chimps. These apes are considered a distinct subspecies of the common chimp and have one of the world's largest chimp populations. If you’re ever out in the jungles of the Congo, beware of the Bili apes.
