AMAZING shells on Florida beach!

Amazing seashell motherload!!
A "mini tsunami" hit Sanibel island on 12/19/18 near Fort Myers, causing all these shells to wash up. However this was not the only factor that caused this amazing seashell heaven. Earlier before this, there was a red tide algae bloom, which is a bloom of toxic algae that is deadly to marine life, such as fish, crabs, and snails. This year's bloom was weird because it lasted for 10 months! Which is way longer than it usually does. And the most likely cause if this very long algae bloom was most likely the lake Okeechobee water discharges.
So basically why these lake discharges are the main problem is because the water in the lake gets polluted with plant fertilizer, which is rich in phosphorus which is what this algae thrives on. The water full with toxic algae gets discharged when lake water levels get dangerously high and flows into the ocean, killing off tons of animals, but not just little fish but sometimes even dolphins, sea turtles, and manatees! Crazy.
So after all these snails died, the first strong winds of this winter washed all the shells up on beaches of southwest Florida causing this amazing shelling! Video filmed on 12/22/18 on the first low tide after the storm on lighthouse beach, Sanibel.
