‘Just the beginning’: LNP MP warns of further land bans and restrictions
The Victorian government considering a push by environmental groups to convert about 300,000 hectares of the Central Highlands state forests into a national park is “just the beginning” of continued land bans, LNP MP Keith Pitt has warned.
Thousands of outraged Victorians are calling on the Allan government to rule out introducing new restrictions and bans on public land.
“Don’t forget Tanya Plibersek signed our country up to an agreement where 30 per cent of our land mass has to be locked up, and they are 60 million hectares short," he said.
“So, 3,000 to 4,000 hectares is just the beginning.
“For every single person that is watching your show that likes camping, that likes being in the bush that likes accessing these areas – 60 million hectares of that has to be taken away from you, simply so they can meet a UNESCO deal that was done by the Labor government.”
