‘House of Balloons’ is the debut mixtape by The Weeknd released on March 21, 2011. The mixtape’s writing and production is primarily handled by The Weeknd, Doc McKinney, Zodiac and Illangelo, among others. It uses samples from Aaliyah, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Beach House, the Cocteau (COCK-toe) Twins and the anime ‘Fate/stay night’. On November 13, 2012, the full mixtape along with a new bonus track ‘Twenty Eight’ was included on The Weeknd’s three-part compilation album 'Trilogy', composed of re-mixed and remastered versions of his three 2011 mixtapes. ‘House of Balloons’ went on to become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed projects of 2011 with a metascore of 87/100 and user score of 9/10 on Metacritic; which remains The Weeknd’s highest rated project to date on the platform.
