I get asked this question quite a lot - can we copy someone's trades but let the system know that we want to use higher or lower leverage than them in those trades?

The answer is no, but I wanted to go over why people might want to do this. I also wanted to share some thoughts about why doing this could cause trouble, and talk about leverage overall as a tool used by the traders we copy...

Many of us have this view of leverage as something that can be increased or decreased and it just makes a trade riskier or less risky, but we don't see how a trader's whole style would be altered by using different amounts of leverage. The assets they trade, the timeframes they trade over - they're linked to the amount of leverage that trader uses, and simply altering the leverage variable would necessitate an entirely different approach to assets and trade ideas.

Basically, you can't just change the leverage amount, and think that won't have to be considered in the larger overall trading picture. It's not an isolated variable - it's part of a trader's whole, overall strategy - change the leverage, change the strategy. It's a much bigger consideration than most of us think when we're new.
