Lamu Island - Shela's New Year's Day Dhow Race, is an annual event, and one of my favourite days of the year in Lamu. The Dhows line up in front of Peponi Hotel, where many people gather to celebrate the race & the bar is full ... but, I find it's a must to follow, with a group of friends by boat, as you truly feel the excitement, and party atmosphere, and, it's wonderful to film/photograph too, with the backdrop of the sand dunes and Shela. After which, the celebration and prize is given at Peponi. @tikarisafariexpeditions
