BALKAN MOTORCYCLE TRAVEL ON TET - offroad - wild camping - GoPro

From April to June 2021 we travelled around with our offroad-motorbike. (BMW G 650 Xchallenge) in the Balkans.

We started in Switzerland and travelled through the countries: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, backt to Albania, (ferry to) Italy and then back home to Switzerland.

We did a lot of the TET (Trans Euro Trail), which is an offroad-route that goes through the whole Europe. We couldn’t do everything because there was still quite some snow on the trails sometimes or not manageable for 2 up the bike or just didn’t suit to our ideas and plans.
The longest we stayed in Albania, as it is such a wild and adventurous country which gives you a lot of possibilities and freedom.
We both travelled the 2nd time through the balkans and again we were just amazed and we would go again and again and again…
You can see in the video the sparkles in our eyes, filled with happiness. The countries are so beautiful and interesting and there is such a big variety in the landscapes… You find everything there from mountains with snow to turquoise oceans, beaches, rivers, canyons, lakes, deserts…
It’s really nice to travel there also because the people love you to be there and show that so much in their warmhearted way … We are more the ones that don’t go into cities or touristic areas so we can’t really tell about those places. The people would put everything they have in their hands down only to wave you with both hands and a huge smile… Those kind of moments were just going to our hearts and stay there.
They wanted to show us everything, help us, cook for us, tell us everything… We would have loved to understand all of it because in the eyes of them you could see all those stories and experiences. It’s amazing how they also still work with horses, donkeys, cows etc… Not a lot of people have a tractor. They often still use carriages as a transport and their car is always full. A lot of people are self-sufficient and grow everything in their own garden, have a cow/goat/sheep for milk, chickens… They drive their transport vehicles until the end, they repair all kind of things a hundred times before they would throw it away... We can learn from them a lot.
It was for us also so inspiring to interact with the people with hand and feet and get to know their lifestyle.
So… I didn’t want to write so much but there would be so much more to write… We just loved that travel very much and I’m glad we have it now in a video and are always able to think back to those memories.

For you we hope to have given you an inspiration to go an discover the Balkans as well. We suggest to go with an off-road-vehicle as you can just dive a lot deeper in to the wild landscape, the culture, the people and get away from the tourists…
