Whooper Swans

Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus) — Weihai

- Identification: Large white swan with a long neck, black legs and feet, and a distinctive yellow-and-black bill (yellow extending from the base toward the tip). Adults are entirely white; juveniles are greyer.

- Migration and timing in Weihai: Whooper swans breed in the Arctic and subarctic (Siberia) and migrate south to spend winters along China’s northern coasts. In the Weihai area they typically arrive in autumn (around October–November) and remain through winter, departing in late winter to spring (March–April).
