Rebellion Spreads Like Wildfire!

**Baba Ishaq Rebellion: A Mystical Uprising Against Seljuk Authority**

In 1240, Baba Ishaq, a charismatic Turkmen mystic and preacher, led a major popular revolt against the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum in Anatolia. Drawing followers from impoverished nomadic Turkmen tribes, peasants, and dervishes, Baba Ishaq preached a syncretistic blend of Islamic mysticism, Shi'a beliefs, and pre-Islamic Turkic traditions. His movement promised social justice and spiritual liberation to the marginalized masses suffering under Seljuk feudal oppression. The rebellion rapidly gained momentum, threatening Seljuk control before being brutally crushed by Sultan Kaykhusraw II's forces. Baba Ishaq was captured and executed, but his uprising revealed deep social tensions and inspired future Anatolian revolts, including the later Babaî movement. This rebellion marked a significant moment of religious heterodoxy and popular resistance in medieval Anatolian history.
