Discussing & Demonstrating How to Replace Your Worn Out Hiking Pole Tips
In this outdoor gear how-to video, I discuss and demonstrate how to replace your worn out hiking pole tips. For my demonstration, I'm swapping out one of the tips on my Leki Makalu aluminum hiking poles. Believe it or not, I've been using these hiking poles ever since I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail way back in 1999. So, they've seen some miles! I've had to replace the tips on them a few times over the years, but they still work great :)
For the most part, replacing your hiking pole tips is a relatively easy task. It doesn't really require any special skills or tools. However, in certain circumstances it can be very challenging. Namely, when you're working with carbon fiber trekking poles where their tips have been secured with an adhesive. Although I demonstrate on a pair of aluminum Leki (no adhesive) hiking poles, I provide enough information for you to deal with those pesky carbon fiber poles (and tips).

I've produced this collection of articles and videos about backcountry travel and exploration with the beginner and intermediate adventurer in mind. This is the demographic for whom I most often served while working in the Lake Tahoe outdoor recreation industry. In essence, these informational projects I create and publish are extensions of the many conversations we've had over the years.
Please note that, although I encourage you to venture out of your comfort zone, you need to know your limits and when to turn back. Always be prepared for the worst case scenario. Your safety is your responsibility.
