Margaret Thatcher's funeral 2013

This is my personal film of Margaret Thatcher's funeral, filmed from the side of St Paul's.

It shows the ceremonial pomp, the arrival of previous Prime Ministers, Boris Johnson and the Queen, the crowds, the departure of the coffin and of the Queen, famous mourners such as Michael Portillo and Katherine Jenkins, TV outside broadcasts, supporters and demonstrators. Finally it includes my interviews with Kenneth Clarke MP (Secretary of State for Justice), Charles Moore (former Editor of the Daily Telegraph) and Howard Pullen (whose wife is the UK representative of the Falkland Islands Government).

The funeral was, despite the grandeur of the setting, a strangely personal affair. Her granddaughter Amanda gave a faultless and moving reading from Ephesians, while in his sermon the Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, dwelt on Lady Thatcher the woman rather than, as he put it, the "symbolic" and "mythological" figure she was perceived of in public.

Dress sense varied from Kenneth Clarke's usual ruffled look, through Katherine Jenkins' funeral chic to William Hague's full morning suit.
